Dr Hany El Banna: A Servant to the World's Poorest People (PB)

Dr Hany El Banna, the founder of Islamic Relief Worldwide, is a tireless humanitarian activist working for the world’s poorest people. Follow his footsteps as he moves to the UK as a young doctor, only to become the president of a global humanitarian relief organisation. From underground tunnels in war-torn Bosnia to the cyclone ravished villages of Bangladesh, find out what drove Dr El Banna to people in need. The story of his efforts to establish Islamic Relief around the world is at once a warm, inspiring and occasionally eccentric tale of humanity.

This is the first part in the Muslims in the Modern Worldseries. This series brings together the lives and personalities of a range of influential and fascinating Muslim figures. They are filled with rare images, illustrated maps and personal anecdotes giving the reader a unique viewpoint into their lives. The short biographies will inspire young readers and introduce them to a set of unique and captivating role models in the modern world.

This book is the first of [hopefully] many more in a series about the Muslim role models of today, aimed predominantly at the youth, but an interesting read for both youth and adults alike. The first in the series, this short biography is about Dr Hany el Bana, the founder of Islamic Relief. Islamic Relief is a charity which has been running for over 25 years with more than 100 branches worldwide. From small beginnings, it has undergone a huge success reaching people in need in the remotest of areas and during the most dangerous of times. The man behind the success of the charity is Dr Hany el Bana. In this biography, Suma Din narrates the extraordinary life of this doctor who truly is a servant to the world's poorest people. His tireless work for the sake of others, his determination to save lives and provide aid is truly inspirational. Definitely a role model for our times. Suma Din writes in a personal way, making the biography an engaging and educational read for teenagers and adults alike. It is easy to follow, providing explanations to key events described in the book such as the Lebanon Civil war, which arguably set the ball rolling towards the formation of Islamic Relief. Buy it, read it, leave a comment!..

'Dr Hany El Banna: A Servant to the World's Poorest People' by Suma Din follows the inspirtational journey of this practical and dedicated individual demonstrating his trials, successes and achievements in his charitable vocation. The incidental detail of Dr El Banna's story is woven into a clear and sympathetic outline of Islamic belief and practice. Each chapter begins with a related Hadiths, contextualising Dr El Banna's own endeavour as part of his faith in the example of the life of the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh). This book is a valuable resource for humanities and Religious Education teachers as it discusses genuine examples of war, poverty, charity, marriage and struggle within the life of this exceptional man. Pupils will find it inspirational, surprising and readable. Moreover, teachers will discover that there are many chapters of the book which can be used to teach a vast number of the topics studied at GCSE especially from the point of view of Islamic belief. This book is a positive and modern example of Islamic faith in action as as such fills a much felt void...
