Key Themes From Surah Kahf
Several key themes can be identified in this surah (chapter) which can found both at the beginning and the end. First, we notice the revelation of the Qur’an to the Prophet (sws) is mentioned in the opening verse:
"Praise be to Allah Who has revealed to His servant the Book devoid of all crookedness"; (al-Kahf 18: 1) Meanwhile, the final verse mentions that the Qur’an has been revealed to the Prophet (pbuh). So the emphasis is given on the Qur’an and its role, and that is why right in the middle of the surah Allah (swt) says ‘recite
what has been revealed to you from the Qur’an’.
The importance of the Qur’an and its recitation is established. We further notice that the surah begins and ends with Allah (swt) mentioning rewards and punishments such that both the beginning and ending of Surah al-Kahf deal with Jannah and Nar (the Fire).
The Surah also begins and ends with the theme of the prophethood of Muhammad (sws) and his role and function. The first verse begins by emphasizing the Prophet (sws) as 'abd, or servant (of Allah)...
