Ibrahim Abdul-Matin, Author of Green Deen, Dies at 46
Ibrahim Abdul-Matin, the author of the book Green Deen: What Islam Teaches About Protecting the Planet, died quietly and peacefully on June 21, 2023, at the age of 46.
He was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and was a lifelong advocate for environmental justice and sustainability.
Abdul-Matin's work was deeply rooted in his faith, and he believed that our faith teaches that humans have a responsibility to care for the Earth. He was a founding member of the Muslim Environmental Network, and he served as a senior fellow with Interfaith America and New Yorkers for Clean Power. He was also a board member of the International Living Future Institute and Sapelo Square.
In addition to his work on environmental issues, Abdul-Matin was also a passionate advocate for public engagement and civic participation. He served as the youth program director for the Prospect Park Alliance, and he worked with a number of other organizations to help people connect with their communities and make a difference in the world.
Abdul-Matin's death is a great loss to the environmental movement, and his work - In Sha Allah, will continue to inspire future generations. He was a brilliant thinker, a gifted writer, and a dedicated activist. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and colleagues.
For his memorial service at the Islamic Centre of New York. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to the Muslim Environmental Network.
